A New Life
When you receive flowers as a gift, it is given as a demonstration of love and care, but as Indigenous Australian Artist Dean Cross said “to give a flower is to kill a flower” (Ngarra, 2021). I think there is something both beautiful and tragic about giving someone flowers. By printing petals from a rose I was given on my birthday, I hope to display appreciation to the flowers and to capture its fragility and beauty. This print serves to give the rose ‘a new life’, capturing the detail of the petals, which are usually overlooked.
